Abstract：

This study investigates whether digital financial development facilitates firm growth by examining a specific channel: that digital financial development lowers the costs of external finance thus fostering firm growth. Using a panel survey of industrial firms in China, we find that firms in industries that rely more heavily on external finance have faster asset growth rates than other firms due to the digital financial development. The asset growth effect is more pronounced for private firms and non-exporters. We also find relatively stronger positive effect of digital financial development on the growth of liabilities in industries that depend relatively more on external finance.

方观富，博士，上海对外经贸大学国际经贸学院讲师。2017年毕业于上海财经大学经济学院劳动经济学专业。主要研究方向为教育经济学、健康经济学和行为经济学。已在《财经研究》、Frontiers of Economics in China、Economics of Transition等发表论文多篇。
