On June 14th, 21 international students from 15 countries including Germany, Canada, Indonesia, Russia, Pakistan, and Bangladesh visited the Yangtze River Delta Institute for Sustainable Development (hereinafter referred to as “YISD”). The visit was organized by the International Cooperation and Accreditation Office of Tongji SEM. The visit was led by Associate Professor MAO Wenzheng, Academic Director of the Master of Global Management (hereinafter referred to as “MGM”) program at SEM, and Ms. HUANG Xunmi, the MGM Program Manager. Participating international students came from a wide range of faculties and disciplines, including Economics and Management, Environmental Engineering, etc.

A staff from YISD guided the international students through the exhibition hall, introducing the Institute’s background, functional positioning, distinctive features and current achievements. The students gained an in-depth understanding of the Institute’s seven major research directions: climate change and global ecology, resource recycling and clean energy, pollution prevention and ecological restoration, low-carbon cities and green building, green vehicles and intelligent transportation, circular economy and public health, and smart sensing and digital twins. These lines of research not only cover core areas of environmental protection and sustainable development, but also highlight interdisciplinary and cross-disciplinary innovation.

The students also had a face-to-face meeting with Prof. LIU Jianxiong, Executive Vice President of YISD. He introduced the background of the institute’s establishment and summarized the advanced technologies and innovative practices in areas such as zero-carbon village construction, water recycling, renewable energy and sustainable agriculture. He highlighted the unique strength of the institute in providing strong technological support for the implementation of high-level strategic planning, including technologies such as the Energy-Carbon Smart Management Platform, Distributed Photovoltaic Rooftops, and the Zero-Carbon Park Carbon Footprint Spatiotemporal Information Evolution Analysis Platform.

During the study tour, the students not only gained insights into the latest research achievements and cutting-edge technologies in the field of sustainable development, but also experienced the atmosphere of scientific research and the spirit of innovation at the YISD. Students from different disciplines and nationalities exchanged ideas and inspiration, broadening perspectives and horizons for future learning and research.
