Mon, Sep 29, 2025

On September 19th, Stanford University and Elsevier jointly released the World’s Top 2% Scientists 2025 list. Eight scholars from Tongji University’s School of Economics and Management were selected, highlighting the school’s outstanding influence in scientific research.

Professor LIU Huchen, Professor SHAO Shuai, Professor XIE Xuemei, Professor SHI Qian, Associate Professor WU Bing, Associate Professor WANG Shijin, Professor MA Weimin, Postdoctoral Researcher Islam and Postdoctoral Researcher Tahir were all included in the “Single-year Impact” list. Furthermore, Professors LIU, SHAO, SHI, and MA were simultaneously recognized on the “Career-long Impact” list, reflecting their sustained high-level academic contributions over the long term.

This list is the result of a collaborative project between Elsevier and Stanford University and has been published on the Mendeley Data website. It is based on citation data from the Scopus database and utilises six metrics, including total citations, the Hirsch H-index, the co-author-adjusted Schreiber Hm-index, sole authorship and sole or first authorship. The list identifies the top 2% of nearly seven million scientists globally across 22 fields and 174 subfields. It provides a benchmark for long-term research performance, offering a more objective and accurate reflection of scholarly influence. The rankings are divided into two main categories: the “Career-Long Impact Ranking” and the “Single-Year Impact Ranking”. The former focuses on cumulative influence throughout an academic career, while the latter highlights achievements within a single year.
