On June 3rd 2024, Tongji SEM, in collaboration with the Shanghai Stock Exchange and Haitong Securities Co., Ltd., successfully held a lecture on “Entering the Digital Intelligence World of ETF”, which is part of the SSE Practice course system of the school. Mr. FU Lvjun, Chief Advisor of Haitong Securities, was present in person to give an in-depth and wonderful lecture to our undergraduates. Professor ZHONG Ninghua, Deputy Dean of the School, awarded a Certificate of Lecture to Mr. FU Lvjun for his positive contribution to the School’s practice course system.

Mr. FU Lvjun started with the basic concept of ETF (Exchange Traded Fund), introduced the definition, development history and main advantages of ETF in detail, and pointed out that ETF as an innovative financial product is developing rapidly and gradually becoming an important tool for investors to allocate their assets due to its advantages such as high transparency, low cost and convenient trading. He then discussed in detail the application of ETFs in the world of digital intelligence, including how smart investment advisors use ETFs to achieve diversified portfolios, the application of machine learning and big data in ETF investing, etc. He used specific cases to demonstrate how ETFs can be efficiently managed and optimized for returns in the real world.

The event was not only guided by Shanghai Securities Regulatory Bureau and Shanghai Securities Association, but also supported by Haitong Securities Investment Education Base and its Shanghai Branch and Zhengben Road Sales Office. As part of the event, “Shareholders Come 2024 – Entering Tongji University” was also held in parallel, aiming to provide students with a broader platform for practice and learning. Mr. NIU Jianyun, Head of R&D Department of Shanghai Securities Association, attended the event. Among them, Mr. WANG Zhen, Financial Manager of Haitong Securities Zhengben Road Business Department, gave a lecture on the theme of “Investing in finance without being cheated, checking the qualification is the key”, which popularised the knowledge of investment and finance and emphasized the importance of verifying the qualification before investing.

During the two-hour seminar, experts from Haitong Securities shared valuable experience and practical advice on ETF investment strategies and financial risk prevention, providing valuable learning opportunities for students new to the financial field.

The establishment of “SSE Practice Course System” aims to implement the “Memorandum of Co-operation on Strengthening the Popularization of Securities and Futures Knowledge and Education” jointly issued by the Securities and Futures Commission and the Ministry of Education, and formally incorporate investor education into the national education system. On September 9th 2020, Tongji SEM launched this far-reaching course system in cooperation with Shanghai Stock Exchange and Haitong Securities.
