Recently, the First Meeting of the Second Member Representative Conference and the First Meeting of the Second Council of the Tongji University Alumni Association were convened. At the meeting, President Chen Jie presented awards to alumni representatives who received the “Tongji University Annual Outstanding Alumnus” honor (for 2020 and 2021) to commend their remarkable achievements and significant contributions to society.

Two outstanding alumni of our college, Mr. Shen Guoqiang (1987 Master of Technology Economics and Management, Founder and General Manager of Germany Dehua Cultural Tourism Group) and Mr. Huang Zhiming (2007 Doctor of Management Science and Industrial Engineering, Founder of Shanghai Zhida Technology), have jointly won the 7th “Tongji University Alumni Award for Pursuing Excellence”.

Shen Guoqiang

1987 Master of Technology Economics and Management,

Founder and General Manager of Germany Dehua Cultural Tourism Group

In 1997, Mr. Shen Guoqiang founded the Dehua Cultural Tourism Group. After more than 20 years of development, the group has become a well-known Chinese enterprise in Germany, with its offices in Hamburg and Frankfurt serving as the “Alumni Home” of Tongji University in Germany. Since 2006, Mr. Shen has served as the Vice President of the Tongji Alumni Association in Germany. Over the more than ten years of the association’s development, he has actively collaborated with successive presidents, undertaken a large amount of specific work, and made significant contributions to the association’s operations.

In 2007, during Tongji University’s centennial celebration, the Tongji Alumni Association in Germany and the Association of Returned Professionals jointly donated a Sino-German Friendship Stele. Mr. Shen Guoqiang contributed funds and oversaw the transportation of the stele from Germany to China. In 2008, he united alumni in Germany to donate to the Wenchuan earthquake disaster area, winning praise from the Chinese academic community in Germany and overseas alumni associations. In 2009, Mr. Shen organized the Tongji Berlin Forum, actively promoting exchanges between Tongji University and the German scientific and educational circles, which was widely recognized by the university, alumni, and all sectors in Germany. In recent years, he has also actively participated in and promoted the revision of the German Alumni Association’s charter, successfully coordinating opinions from all parties and facilitating the birth of the new charter. During the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, Mr. Shen organized the Tongji Alumni Association in Germany and the German Hangzhou Federation of Overseas Chinese to donate a large amount of anti-epidemic supplies to multiple hospitals in Wuhan and Hangzhou, as well as to hospitals and nursing homes in Heinsberg County—the hardest-hit area in Germany.

In addition, he has insisted on sponsoring the funds for the Tongji Alumni Association in Germany every year without interruption and is responsible for raising funds for multiple major events of the Association, serving as a strong financial backing for it.

In 2010, Mr. Huang Zhiming founded Shanghai Zhida Technology Development Co., Ltd. The company is a new energy vehicle charging and vehicle networking technology enterprise integrating hardware R&D and manufacturing, intelligent connected platform R&D, and national operational services. Currently, the company provides community and home charging products and services for 70% of new energy vehicle manufacturers in 385 cities and over 50,000 communities across China, with its market share ranking among the top two nationwide.

Mr. Huang Zhiming has mastered advanced technologies in the field of new energy vehicle green travel. Under his leadership, the company has obtained more than 40 national patents and won many honors, such as being recognized as a National High – Tech Enterprise, a Shanghai – level “Specialized, Refined, Peculiar and Innovative” Enterprise, a Yangpu District “Double – Creation” Little Giant, and the recipient of the Yangpu District Economic Development Innovation Award. As a leading talent in the “Specialized, Refined, Peculiar and Innovative” enterprise, Mr. Huang Zhiming has been interviewed and reported by news media such as Shanghai TV Station and Dragon TV for many times. In 2011, he was received by Han Zheng, who was the then – Mayor of Shanghai.

Mr. Huang Zhiming cherishes and takes pride in his alma mater. As an adjunct professor of innovation and entrepreneurship at Tongji University, he frequently utilizes his spare time to impart innovative concepts to students by integrating his own entrepreneurial experiences. As the inaugural Executive Chairman of the Tongji Alumni Industrial Innovation Alliance, he has facilitated the collaborative development of alumni and the alma mater’s undertakings. In the realm of public welfare, Zhida Technology has actively participated in the opening ceremony of the InnoCommunity Neighborhood Center and the Community Brainstorming Forum, offering insights and strategies for residential community governance. Mr. Huang has also led the company to establish the Xinjiangwan Street Foundation in partnership with Xinjiangwan Street, donating 100,000 yuan to focus on community livelihood and cultivate a public welfare-oriented community.

Tongji University Alumni Award for Pursuing Excellence

Tongji University Alumni Award for Pursuing Excellence (referred to as Award for Pursuing Excellence for short) was established in 2010 based on donations from all sectors of society. The Alumni Award is selected annually from across the university to recognize alumni who have demonstrated outstanding performance in a particular field or generated broad social influence, making it one of Tongji University’s most important honorary awards.
