Alumni Support, Navigating the Journey Ahead —— ‘Peer Lecture Hall’ Successfully Held Online

On March 19, 2022, the “Peer Lecture Hall”—a series of career education lectures jointly hosted by the Career Development Center and the Alumni and Corporate Relations Office of the School of Economics and Management at Tongji University—was successfully held online.

The lecture was moderated by Ms. Chen Xun, Director of the Career Development Center. The event specially invited four alumni of the School to share their career insights: Ms. Chen Yingying, Assistant General Manager of Shanghai Poly Corporation; Mr. Fang Kun, Human Resources Business Partner at Merck China; Mr. Zhu Jun, Executive General Manager of the Fixed Income Department at China International Capital Corporation (CICC); and Associate Professor Ding Tao from the Naval Medical University. They respectively introduced the basic landscape and development trends of industries including real estate, pharmaceuticals, finance, and civilian positions in the military. The lecture attracted over 120 students, creating a lively online atmosphere.

Chen Yingying

Ms. Chen Yingying showcased the ecological system of the real estate industry to students from three perspectives: space, services, and finance, and analyzed the industry trends from five dimensions. She also emphasized that when choosing a career direction after graduation, one should select platforms with sustainable and stable growth and a well-established training system, keeping in mind that “growth is more important than success.”

Fang Kun

Human Resources Partner at Merck China

Ms. Fang Kun introduced the four major sectors of the pharmaceutical industry represented by Merck & Co., including pharmaceuticals, medical devices, medical services, and medical commerce. She highlighted cutting-edge trends such as digital transformation in healthcare and internet-based medical services, and finally noted that talent demand in the pharmaceutical industry includes roles in research and development, manufacturing, and marketing.

Zhu Jun

Executive General Manager, Fixed Income Department, China International Capital Corporation (CICC)

Mr. Zhu Jun shared his more than ten years of professional experience in the financial industry and briefly introduced the primary market and secondary market in finance. He noted that the financial industry is highly specialized with numerous subdivisions, so job seekers need to identify their specific direction, purposefully cultivate their qualities and capabilities, and he emphasized the importance of internship experience.

Associate Professor Ding Tao shared the reasons and journey behind her choice of a civilian career in the military, introducing her daily work, the development prospects for military civilian personnel, and their welfare benefits. Regarding personal career development, Ding Tao believes that first and foremost, one must have a clear self-positioning and choose an industry that one excels in, is passionate about, and has development potential.

During the interactive Q&A session, students actively raised various concerns and questions encountered in job hunting, and all four mentors provided positive responses.

At the conclusion of the event, Ms. Cheng Guoping, Director of the Alumni and Corporate Relations Office, delivered a summary speech. She noted that the four alumni had passionately and unreservedly shared their career development experiences with junior students, embodying the spirit of “standing together through thick and thin” and demonstrating the compassionate support and selfless dedication of Tongji community members.
