Uniting Alumni Strength with Wisdom to Build Dreams for Students’ Growth

Fri, Sep 30, 2022

To draw a “shared circle” of Party-building collaboration and support students’ growth, on November 18, teachers from the Alumni and Corporate Relations Office and students from the Third Undergraduate Party Branch of the College visited the Civil Engineering Project 4 of Shanghai Metro Line 21 for an on-site tour.

This project is a major initiative in Pudong New Area, Shanghai, launched in 2022. The project manager is Zheng Cheng, a 2002 alumnus of Engineering Management from our college and a senior engineer at Tunnel Engineering Co., Ltd. Shanghai Highway & Bridge (Group) Co., Ltd.

2002 Alumnus, Engineering Management

Alumnus Zheng Cheng has successively served as the chief engineer for the Hangzhou Metro Line 1 and Line 2 projects, general manager of the Zhiwei Road New Construction Project (municipal supporting project for the main center of Jinshan Industrial Zone, Shanghai), and Civil Engineering Project 15 of Shanghai Metro Line 15. He actively responded to the calls of the state and Shanghai Municipal Government, volunteering to participate in the Eighth Batch of Xinjiang Aid “Turnkey” Project—the Kashgar Bachu County Civic Center Project in Xinjiang.

During the exchange symposium, Alumnus Zheng Cheng emotionally recalled his campus life at Tongji University and expressed gratitude to his alma mater for its cultivation. When faced with students’ questions about studies, employment, and joining the Communist Party, he openly and unreservedly shared his insights. He encouraged students to cherish their campus time, study hard, and lay a solid foundation for future careers in engineering management.

At the symposium, Alumnus Zheng Cheng and his colleagues also shared details about the construction of Civil Engineering Project 4 of Shanghai Metro Line 21, sparking enthusiastic questions from students and creating a lively interactive atmosphere. After the meeting, he led students on a tour of the project’s control room, living areas, and other facilities.

Through this passing of knowledge and guidance, Alumnus Zheng Cheng’s sincere sharing not only enriched the students’ understanding but also significantly enhanced their sense of identity and pride as Tongji School of Economics and Management students.

This visit provided students with opportunities for face-to-face interactions with industry seniors, helping them gain a deeper understanding of their major, explore the industry, and make informed career plans. It also strengthened ties with alumni, laying a solid foundation for innovative Party-building collaboration and school-enterprise cooperation models in the future.
