Embracing Digital Intelligence, Fostering Industry-Academia Integration: Faculty and Students Visit Huawei Shanghai Research Institute​

Shanghai, April—Amidst the vibrant spring season, a delegation of faculty members and students from our institution visited the Huawei Shanghai Research Institute to deepen industry-academia collaboration. The visit provided firsthand insights into Huawei’s technological innovations and development trajectory while facilitating in-depth discussions with experts on cutting-edge technologies and corporate culture.

Led by Professor Cheng Guoping, Associate Dean of the School of Economics and Management at Tongji University and Director of the Alumni and Corporate Relations Office, the delegation included Professor Wei Feng (Acting Chair of the Department of Organizational Management), Zhang Yue (Deputy Director of the Alumni and Corporate Relations Office), and nearly 40 representatives from various alumni cohorts.

Knowledge Sharing and Dialogue

Liu Zhengbao, General Manager of Huawei Shanghai’s Government and Enterprise Sector and a Tongji University alumnus, delivered a keynote speech. Attendees engaged in dynamic discussions with Huawei representatives, sharing perspectives drawn from their professional experiences. Professor Cheng Guoping noted that the visit “offered invaluable exposure to industry advancements and Huawei’s technological prowess, yielding substantial gains.”

Immersive Technological Showcase

Guided by Huawei staff, the delegation toured the institute’s exhibition hall, exploring Huawei’s latest breakthroughs in 5G, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence. Detailed presentations highlighted the R&D progress and objectives of Huawei’s 5G technology—emphasizing its multidimensional impact across industries, including digital transformation, commercial applications, and user experience. Participants further immersed themselves in 5G-enabled VR, AR, and XR interactive demonstrations, witnessing Huawei’s collaborative innovation ecosystem and its vision for future technological convergence.

Inspiring Excellence, Forging Ahead

Faculty and students unanimously described the visit as an “immensely fruitful journey” that expanded horizons and showcased Huawei’s ethos of relentless innovation and pursuit of excellence. In an era of intensifying global competition, the experience reinforced their commitment to leveraging individual strengths, advancing with purpose in their respective fields, and contributing value to society.
