As the new year dawned, Tongji University School of Economics and Management (SEM) received a significant philanthropic gesture from its distinguished alumnus, Mr. Cai Guang. An inaugural EMBA graduate, Chairman of Guangdong Jianxing Holdings Group Co., Ltd., Member of the 11th All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese, and Founding Chairman of the Guangdong Tianxingjian Charity Foundation, Mr. Cai generously donated 1 million RMB each to Tongji SEM and the National Institute for Excellence in Engineering (NIEE) at Tongji University. The donations aim to bolster talent cultivation and disciplinary development.

The signing ceremonies for the establishment of the “Tongji University Jianxing Management Education Development Fund” and the “Tongji University Jianxing Excellence in Engineering Talent Development Fund” were held during the “Tongji EMBA Annual Gala 2023”. University leaders, school administrators, and over 600 EMBA faculty and students witnessed the occasion.

Ms. Cai Minzhen, Vice Chairperson of the Guangdong Tianxingjian Charity Foundation, Vice President of the Guangdong International Overseas Chinese Chamber of Commerce, and Vice Chairperson of the Guangdong Youth Federation for Overseas Chinese, represented the donor. She signed the donation agreements with Professor Xie En, Vice Dean (Acting Dean) of Tongji SEM, and Professor Liu Chun, Executive Vice Dean of the NIEE and Vice Dean of the Tongji Graduate School.

Professor Lei Xinghui, Executive Vice President of the Tongji University Alumni Association, Vice Chairman of the Tongji University Education Development Foundation, and former Vice President of Tongji University, attended the ceremony. In his address, Prof. Lei commended Mr. Cai’s deep affection for his alma mater and his significant generosity, describing the gesture as “deeply cherished.” He encouraged alumni to continue striving and contributing to both the university and society.

Quoting the adage “Those who eat the fruit remember the tree; those who drink from the stream remember its source,” Chairman Cai Guang expressed profound gratitude for the education he received through the Tongji EMBA program. He reaffirmed his lifelong commitment as “a proud member of the Tongji EMBA community” and pledged continued support for the university’s advancement.

Professor Xie En emphasized that Mr. Cai’s donation signifies not only support for Tongji but also profound encouragement for young students. “The school will honor Mr. Cai’s invaluable generosity and utilize every cent of the fund effectively to propel Tongji SEM’s talent cultivation to new heights,” he stated

Professor Liu Chun conveyed heartfelt thanks for Chairman Cai’s generous contribution, assuring that the funds would be directed towards “the most critical areas” to foster greater achievements in innovative talent cultivation at the NIEE.
