On the occasion of Tongji University’s 117th anniversary, the 2024 “Tongji University Pursuit of Excellence Awards” ceremony was held. Two outstanding alumni from the School of Economics and Management were recognized: Liu Xinyi received the Pursuit of Excellence Alumni Award, while Pan Xiaozhen was granted the Pursuit of Excellence Alumni Nomination Award.

Liu Xinyi: Leading Finance, Powering Shanghai’s Tech Innovation

Liu Xinyi(Male, born July 1965) graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Management Engineering in 1988 and a master’s degree in Technical Economics in 1993 from Tongji University. Currently serving as President of Shanghai International Group, Director of Tongji University, and Senior Economist, he holds key roles including Executive Council Member of the China Finance 40 Forum, Vice Chairman of the Shanghai Financial Federation, Director of the Shanghai Development Foundation, and Founding President of the Tongji University Alumni Association Financial Branch. He is also a member of the 11th Shanghai Municipal Committee of the CPC and a deputy to the 15th and 16th Shanghai Municipal People’s Congresses.

With over 30 years of experience in finance:

• As Head of Corporate Banking at SPD Bank (2007–2012), he elevated its core business metrics from 4th to 1st place among joint-stock banks nationwide.
• During his tenure as President of SPD Bank (2015–2019), the bank ranked among the top joint-stock banks in key performance indicators.
• As President of Shanghai International Group (2020–2023), he more than doubled the group’s profits compared to the previous three-year period.

Liu co-founded the Li Lin-Yu Xiang Scholarship, a perpetual university-level scholarship supporting SEM master’s and doctoral students in Technical Economics and Business Administration. To date, 33 recipients have received awards totaling RMB 330,000. A devoted alumnus, he actively engages in university and alumni activities, fostering close collaborations between his organization and Tongji in teaching, internships, and employment.

Pan Xiaozhen: Gratitude at the Source, Serving the Community

Pan Xiaozhen (Male, born November 1970) graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Construction Management Engineering in 1994. Currently President of Gold Mantis Home Decor Technology Co., Ltd., he serves as a Committee Member of the 14th Xiamen Municipal Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, Vice Chairman of the Xiamen Federation of Industry and Commerce, and President of the Tongji University Xiamen Alumni Association. His honors include inclusion in the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce’s “Home Furnishing Hall of Fame” and recognition as a “Top Ten Business Leader of the West Coast Economic Zone.”

As President of the Xiamen Alumni Association:

• He organized activities to strengthen alumni ties and convey the university’s care to members.
• Donated cabinets worth over RMB 100,000 to support Tongji’s “Alumni Home” (Sunrise Building) project.
• Raised RMB 200,000 for Tongji’s pandemic response through the Tongji Education Development Foundation.
• Donated over RMB 1 million in the name of the Xiamen Alumni Association to establish an AI lab at Xiamen Shuangshi High School, leading to a record number of Tongji applicants and admissions.
• Facilitated collaborations between Tongji and East China University of Political Science and Law alumni.
• Organized visits for Chengdu alumni to Gold Mantis’ IoT manufacturing base, showcasing world-class intelligent production systems.
