Chao Zhang is a full professor (in sustainability science and public policy) in School of Economics and Management and an adjunct chair professor in UN Environment-Tongji Institute of Environment for Sustainable Development, both in Tongji University. He earned PhD from School of Environment, Tsinghua University, and did postdoctoral research in Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University. His research applies interdisciplinary theories and methodologies of system analysis and policy modeling to analyze a wide spectrum of environment, energy and water resources problems. He is currently conducting intensive studies on the following topics:

  • Integrated assessment of energy-water nexus and its sustainable management
  • Resource efficiency policies and social metabolism analysis
  • Environmental footprint accounting (water/carbon/pollution emissions) of socio-economic system

His works have been published in prestigious academic journals in the fields of environment and energy including Nature Energy, Environmental Science & Technology, Applied Energy, Journal of Cleaner Production, Ecological Economics, etc..
