摘要: Building projects are almost always disruptive to the everyday lives of the local community.  In a megaproject context, such disruptions can be amplified over long periods of time.  Yet, the construction of buildings and infrastructure also contribute to the development and flourishing of communities.  In this talk, I will reflect on two megaprojects that I have recently examined semi-ethnographically, and connect these observations with the aspiration of building sustainable communities.  I will draw on recent policy interest, in the UK, on the concept of social value to show how understanding the qualitative meanings beyond the quantitative measurement of value is what helps project professionals build trust with the local communities they engage with and to obtain the social license to practice.
