Robots in action at Tongji University. The university has built an Industry 4.0 Smart Factory Lab, the first of its kind in China, on its Jiading campus. Equipped with industrial robots, programmed lathes and other computerized machines, the lab is a joint venture between Tongji’s Sino-German Engineering College and a number of German companies. University officials said they will also be launching a smart 3D warehouse project before the end of the year. — Li Huacheng
