1. Course:  Cross-Cultural Management
Date: 8-10.Nov, 2012
Professor: Dr. Tomas Casas
Course Abstract: How effectively are you working in cross-functional teams? Can you engage in mutually productive collaboration with clients, partners or suppliers who are different from you in terms of expertise, age, gender, wealth and income levels, social class, first language, values, religion or race? What is your CQ? The Cross-Cultural Management course seeks to hone your skills and understanding of cross-cultural opportunities and aims at making engagements in unfamiliar cultural contexts successful.
Faculty Spotlight: Dr. Casas Klett is affiliated with the University of St. Gallen and regularly teaches EMBA and executives at institutions like the IMD, Rotman School of the University of Toronto, SKOLKOVO Moscow School of Business, Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business, the Indian Institute of Management at Ahmedabad. Having graduated from the Wharton School of Business of the University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Casas Klett attained his Ph.D. degree at the University of St. Gallen in Switzerland. Dr. Casas Klett has partnered with Chinese entrepreneurs and launched multiple ventures in the software and information technology sectors.

 


2. Course: Leadership & General Management

Guest Speaker:  Mr. Bryan Carter
Course Abstract: The course ’Leadership and General Management’ is to investigate what makes a leader, what is a successful leader and why leaders sometimes fail. It then proceeds to look at typologies of leaders and the different forms of leadership behavior along the spectrum from democratic to autocratic, and how leaders operate in SMEs and corporations – which can be quite different. Examples will be looked at in a cultural context, using case studies and exercises to illustrate the presentation. The course looks at management issues in relation to leadership to encourage consideration of this crucial connection. Communication, the media, leadership and the crucial role of the leader in a crisis are included in this course.
Faculty Spotlight:
Prof. Elfed Roberts is the honorable professor in Hong Kong University, and regularly teaches EMBA students and the executives in Leadership and Communications in Hong Kong University, Fudan University, Solvay in Brussels, etc.
Mr. Bryan Carter’s principal career was with JPMorgan Chase (31 years) and retired from the position of Managing Director. Mr. Carter also held the position of Chief Executive for Coutts Bank in Hong Kong; Coutts is the most prestigious private bank in Europe.
