Introduction

A two-hour interactive presentation exploring the landscape of corporate citizenship and responsibility primarily based on a Western perspective.

Focus will be on why and what is happening within the business and the management education communities. Examples of the current development will be presented.

The discussion/dialogue can very well also address the question of how corporate citizenship and responsibility are carried out in different contexts around the world, and how it is approached in different ways by management education.

Prof. Dr. Anders Aspling has among other experiences participated in formulating and carrying out responsibility strategies for businesses as an Executive Director of a large international real estate and construction company during the late 1980’s and early 1990’as. He also participated as Dean of the Swedish Institute of Management – the leading northern European executive education institute – in the construction of the European Quality Improvement System (EQUIS) in the mid 1990’s; and was himself among the first 19 pioneering schools to become internationally accredited by EQUIS in 1999.

Over the last 10 years Anders has directly impacted on the introduction of responsibility issues in international accreditation through the organization he initiated 2003 as a member of the board of the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD). The Globally Responsible Leadership Initiative (GRLI) is today an independent foundation functioning as an operational arm for its two strategic partners EFMD and the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International (AACSB International) regarding sustainability issues, corporate citizenship and responsible leadership.

Anders teaches sustainability, the role of business in society and globally responsible leadership at various academic and other institutions throughout the world – in academia primarily in executive and MBA programs.

His latest publication is “Business, Management Education, and Leadership for the Common Good” in “Shaping the Future of Business Education: Relevance, Rigor and Life Preparation”, Palgrave, 2013.
