2019 Fall Semester Welcome Ceremony Held for Int’l Students of SEM

On August 29th, 2019, the Welcome Ceremony for New International students of SEM was held successfully at Auditorium 301 of Tongji Building A. In the new fall semester 2019, we have welcomed 199 new international students from more than 60 countries, including 34 undergraduate students, 55 postgraduate students, 9 doctoral students and 101 exchange students.

At the opening ceremony, Prof. CHEN Song, Deputy Dean of SEM, delivered a welcome speech on “Embracing Western and Eastern Culture and Boasting Farsighted Vision”. He profoundly elaborated the over 100-year development of Tongji University, the University’s motto “Discipline, Practicality, Unity and Creativity” and SEM’s mission “To create management knowledge and develop leading professionals for China and the world who are capable of solving practical problems while addressing the challenges of business and society with a global perspective, responsibility and in a sustainable way.” To end the speech, Prof. CHEN Song sent a message to all the international students: to embrace the world, to learn Chinese culture, to be a pioneer in the new era, and to create a beautiful chapter for the world prosperity and the human civilization.

After Prof. CHEN Song’s speech, the International Cooperation and Accreditation Office of SEM introduced in detail the procedures of visa and residence permit application, explained the rules and regulations, and introduced the colorful campus life and various information related to students’ daily life. On the afternoon of August 29th, 2019, a city tour was organized to help students have an overall picture of Shanghai’s urban development through a visit to the Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Center. The enriched and colorful events arranged in the orientation week aims to help the new students accommodate themselves more quickly into the local life and study and to know more about Chinese culture and customs.

From this year, the Master of Global Management (MGM) program has been upgraded and started to enroll applicants from all over the world. This semester, the program finally selects 23 students from 16 countries covering five continents. In the most recent Financial Times Ranking 2018, the MGM program ranks 35th globally in Master in Management Program. SEM is committed to continuously explore collaboration with top universities around the world, to enhance the quality of international programs, to promote international exchange among Sino-foreign students, and to develop management talents with international vision.
