In December 2020, Taiyuan Metro Line 2 phase I was put into operation while Taiyuan Rail Transit Development Co., Ltd. sent a letter of appreciation, which expressed thanks to the joint team of BIM Technology R & D and application of Taiyuan rail transit composed of teachers and students from Tongji SEM and highly praised help and contribution of the team for the construction and operation of Taiyuan Rail Transit Line 2 phase I project and Smart Metro.

This project is the implementation under the framework of strategic cooperation between Tongji University and Taiyuan Municipal People’s Government. After formally signing the strategic cooperation agreement in December 2017, the two sides signed the Agreement on Joint Establishment of Taiyuan Research Institute of Tongji University in June 2018 where it is clear that the two sides would conduct comprehensive cooperation in urban development planning, scientific and technological research, talent exchange and cooperation, and etc.

Relying on Tongji’s advantageous disciplines, talent guidance, science and technology transformation and other resources, the project provides scientific and technological support for Taiyuan’s rail transit and BIM Technology application, and effectively promotes the development of Smart Metros, Smart Transportation, and Smart City in Shanxi Province. The project used BIM Technology to aggregate big data, cloud computing, artificial intelligence, block chain, 5G, Internet of Things, etc., to build the digital base of Taiyuan Metro and the Smart Metro in an all-round way. Taiyuan Metro Line 2 is the first metro line in China to carry out operation-oriented BIM Technology Application in the whole life cycle.

The team paid attention to the cooperation mode of “Scientific Research-Industry-Talent Training” and signed an agreement with Taiyuan Rail Transit Development Co., Ltd. and Taiyuan City Vocational and Technical College to jointly build “BIM Technology Innovation Application Center “. Based on the project achievements, the team published nearly 10 academic papers; compiled 5 provincial local standards, and initially established the standard system for the whole life cycle application of BIM technology in the field of engineering construction in Shanxi Province. In addition, the three parties also actively carried out BIM technical personnel training. Tongji University and Taiyuan Rail Transit Development Co., Ltd. established the Shanxi BIM Technology Innovation Alliance, which played the role of an expert think tank for the introduction of the 14th Five-year Plan of Shanxi Housing and Construction Department and the BIM Technology promotion policies.
