Hanfu is the traditional costume of Chinese people. On the March 28^th, the Hanfu Festival, Tongji SEM and the Office of International Students co-organized “When Hanfu Meets Cherry Blossom, we meet each other” workshop, inviting international students in Tongji to experience Hanfu culture and enjoy cherry blossoms that afternoon.

Hanfu Class

The event began with a class in Building A, where members of the International Department and Hanfu Club made a brief introduction of the basic knowledge of Hanfu, the members of Hanfu Club showed the students how to wear Hanfu, and then guided and assisted the students to put on it.

Hanfu Dance Flash Mob

Then came the Hanfu dance flash mob. Under the guidance of the Hanfu Club students, the participating students quickly learned the dance. The combination of Hanfu and dance brought more beauty to the bright spring day.

Wandering in Blossom

With cherry blossoms at their full bloom and fine weather, it was one of the best days of spring at Tongji University. Led by members of the International Department and Hanfu Club, the participating international students, dressed in Hanfu, had a great campus tour. The explanation of the history of the university on the way further enabled the international students to understand the history of each building in campus. At our destination, the cherry blossom avenue, we invited professional photographer to take photos of each participants under the cherry blossom trees. Moreover, we had free time for the participating students to experience the Sakura Bazaar – a limited time market organized by Tongji students where international students could better understand the campus culture and student activities of Tongji.

Game Break

After the end of the campus tour, the activity was gradually coming to an end. In the Hanfu knowledge quiz session, everyone reviewed the Hanfu knowledge they had learned earlier, and students who answered the questions correctly received a small gift prepared before. At the end of the activity, the students shared their thoughts about today’s activity. ” Wearing Hanfu in front of everyone made me a little shy at first, but the event was fun and I had a wonderful time.” one of our participating international students said.
