Professor LIU Xinghua Attended the Post Pandemic China-Australia Economic Cooperation Forum

Fri, Jun 30, 2023

On June 5 and 6, the Post Pandemic China-Australia Economic Cooperation Forum, hosted by the Melbourne Chapter of the Australian Chamber of Commerce in China and co-organised by the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, was held in Melbourne. With the theme of “Sharing Opportunities for a Brighter Future”, the forum aimed to create good opportunities for the Australian and Chinese business communities to enhance understanding, increase mutual trust and promote cooperation.

LIU Xinghua, Professor at School of Economics and Management, Tongji University and Director of China Economic Policy Research Centre, China Institute for Innovation and Development Strategy , was invited to deliver a keynote speech on China-Australia economic and trade cooperation, looking forward to working together to build an upgraded version of China-Australia economic and trade relations in the post pandemic era and to create a new future of China-Australia economic cooperation and development.

Professor LIU Xinghua delivered a keynote speech at the forum on “Working together to build an upgraded version of China-Australia economic and trade relations in the late epidemic era and creating a new future for China-Australia economic cooperation and development”.

With informative data and in-depth analysis, Professor LIU gave a systematic interpretation of the stable global economic recovery and the prospects for China’s economic development after the pandemic. He said that the current global economy is full of uncertainties and all countries in the world need to unite and cooperate to tide over the difficulties and meet the future together. China is continuing to deepen domestic reforms, actively expanding a high level of openness to the outside world, striving to achieve a post pandemic economic recovery, and taking the initiative to cooperate with other countries to provide new impetus for world economic growth.

“The economic growth of China and Australia is mutually reinforcing, creating an interdependent economic relationship.” Professor LIU suggested that in recent years, China-Australia economic and trade relations have taken a hit. Looking to the future, the key lies in developing China-Australia economic and trade relations on a long-term basis, actively seeking convergence of interests, continuously expanding the community of interests, addressing each other’s concerns on the basis of equality and mutual benefit, and promoting pragmatic economic and trade cooperation between the two sides to a new level.

He suggested that China-Australia economic and trade cooperation could be strengthened in six areas: resources and energy (including renewable energy), infrastructure (including new infrastructure), advanced manufacturing, agriculture and animal husbandry, services (including productive services, modern finance and education, culture and tourism) and science and technology parks, so as to capitalise on their respective strengths and create an upgraded version of China-Australia economic and trade relations in the post pandemic era and create a new future for China-Australia economic development. This will create a new future for China-Australia economic development.
