The Associate Dean of the Graduate School of Management, Politecnico di Milano Visited Tongji SEM and Decoded “Made in Italy”

On March 22nd 2024, Professor Sergio TERZI, Associate Dean of the Graduate School of Management of Politecnico di Milano, Ms. WU Xiaodan, Head of Admission and Enrolment for Asia Pacific of the Graduate School of Management of Politecnico di Milano visited Tongji SEM. Professor XIE En, Acting Dean of Tongji SEM, Ms. XU Yunxia, Vice Dean of Sino-Italian Campus, Ms. Grace SHOU, Director of Public Relations and Communication Center and Deputy Director of EMBA and MBA Programs Center of Tongji SEM, met with the visiting guests.

Professor XIE En, Acting Dean of Tongji SEM, introduced the history and development of SEM to the delegation from Politecnico di Milano, and traced back the cooperation between SEM and Politecnico di Milano as well as the details of students exchange. The two sides had in-depth discussions on building a fast channel for outstanding bachelor students to master programs and exploring potential cooperation on double degree master programs, especially in the fields of both sides’ advantageous disciplines such as supply chain management. In addition, the two sides explored the possibility of strengthening research collaboration and co- developing high-level PhD students. The meeting greatly promoted the mutual understanding between the two sides, inspired new ideas for program cooperation, and laid a foundation for the further talent cooperation in the future.

After the meeting, Professor Sergio TERZI gave a unique lecture on “Made in Italy” to Tongji faculty and students. Starting from the Italian business and cultural environment, he decoded the family-linked business model of Italian small and medium-sized enterprises, and introduced the 4A field of Italian brands covering clothing, food, housing and transportation. In addition, Professor Sergio TERZI also focused on the luxury market in Italy, pointing out that sustainability has become a new competitive sector for “Made in Italy”. More than 160 students attended the lecture in the evening. The atmosphere was warm and students had enthusiastic interaction with Professor Sergio TERZI.

Politecnico di Milano (POLIMI), founded in 1863, boasts a long history,and enjoys a good reputation in architecture and design. The School of Management (GSoM) of Politecnico di Milano is one of the triple-crown accredited schools in the world as well as the first business school in Europe to gain B-Corp Certification. GSoM is ranked 36th among European business schools in the Financial Times (FT) in 2023, and its Master in Luxury International Management is ranked global top 2 in the Eduniversal Best Masters in 2022. The cooperation between SEM and Politecnico di Milano can be traced back to May 2010, when SEM signed a double master degree agreement with the School of Industrial and Information Engineering of POLIMI, and nearly 60 students have participated in this program.
