All-time Best Performance by Tongji SEM in the 4th National Teaching Innovation Competition for University Teachers

Shanghai Municipal Education Commission recently announced the results of the 4th National Teaching Innovation Competition. Associate Professor Xiong Guoyue from the Marketing Department of Tongji SEM won the first prize of the New Human Sciences Group in Shanghai after more than four months of preparation. His outstanding nationally ranked undergraduate course in Marketing Management stood out from other high-quality courses. It broke SEM’s record in this competition, marking the school’s breakthrough in teaching reform and innovation.

Led by the Department of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China, and hosted by the China Association of Higher Education, the National Teaching Innovation Competition for University Teachers is a high-level competition that reflects the teaching and educational ability of higher education institutions in China. The Marketing Management course was designed in a team format and involved the dedication of Professors XIE En, ZHENG Xin and WANG Li. This award is a new achievement for SEM, after Prof. LI Haiying and her team including Prof. SHI Jianxun, Prof. ZHONG Ninghua and Prof. RUAN Qingsong won the second prize in the second competition with their national first-class undergraduate course Interpreting the Code of China’s Economic Development.

In recent years, SEM has promoted education and teaching reform, established teaching innovation teams, promoted interdepartmental and interdisciplinary cooperation, and focused on digitalisation, sustainability and integration. SEM has developed new interdisciplinary courses, promoted the upgrading of existing courses, deeply integrated the frontline of disciplinary and industry development trends, and achieved steady improvement in curriculum quality and teaching ability.

Introduction of course: Marketing Management 

Marketing Management is a national first-class undergraduate course, a first-class undergraduate course in Shanghai, a key undergraduate course in Shanghai, a high-quality general education course in Tongji University, and a demonstration course for moral education and talent cultivation in Tongji University. The course leader is also a key member of the national high quality open video course, a core member of the Shanghai high quality marketing course.

Marketing Management is a general elective course offered to all students at Tongji University, dedicated to cultivating students’ strategic market thinking and practical skills. Through this course, students can identify business problems, develop marketing strategies and cultivate interdisciplinary thinking. In addition, through enterprise practice, business competition challenges and other means, students can develop market awareness and practical ability, forge their values of integrity and marketing character, and continuously promote their independent, diverse and advanced growth. This course is designed to take full advantage of students’ interests, replace theoretical teaching with vivid cases, and allow students to experience the intense competition and challenges firsthand through experimental simulations.
