8 Scholars from Tongji SEM Selected for Elsevier’s List of “Highly Cited Chinese Researchers” for Year 2024

Elsevier published the list of “Highly Cited Chinese Researchers” for Year 2024 and eight scholars from Tongji SEM made the list once again.
XIE En Selected Discipline: Business Administration
XIE En was selected as one of Elsevier’s “Highly Cited Chinese Researchers” for 2020-2024. XIE is currently the Dean , and Deputy Dean of Advanced Institute of Business of the School of Economics and Management of Tongji University . He is one of the first recipients of the Excellent Youth Fund of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and was selected as one of the New Century Excellent Talents of the Ministry of Education. He has been in charge of a number of research projects including the key projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and has won two provincial and ministerial level research awards. He has published or accepted more than 100 high level papers in Strategic Management Journal, Journal of Operations Management, Journal of Management and Journal of Management Science, among which nearly 50 papers are SCI/SSCI papers and 4 are UTD papers. Among them, there are nearly 50 SCI/SSCI papers and 4 UTD papers, which have been cited more than 2500 times in WOS core collection.

XIE Xuemei Selected Subjects: Business Administration
XIE Xuemei has been listed in the top 2% of global scientists and Elsevier’s “Highly Cited Scholars in China” list.
XIE Xuemei is a Distinguished Professor at the Department of Innovation and Strategy, School of Economics and Management, Tongji University, a recipient of the National Outstanding Young Scientist Fund, a Distinguished Professor of Shanghai Municipality (Oriental Scholar), a Shuguang Scholar of Shanghai Municipality, and a Pujiang Talent of Shanghai Municipality. Shee has presided over more than 20 major projects of the National Social Science Foundation of China, the National Outstanding Youth Science Foundation of China, and the top-level projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China. She has published more than 100 academic papers in international authoritative SSCI journals as well as Management World, Journal of Management Science and other important journals. She serves as Senior Editor of Management and Organization Review and Editorial Board Member or Special Issue Editor of several SCI/SSCI journals.

KENNETH A.KIM Selected Subjects: Business Administration
KIM has been selected as one of Elsevier’s “Highly Cited Scholars in China” for nine consecutive years, including 2016-2019 (econometrics) and 2020-2024 (business administration). KIM is a professor in the Department of Economics and Finance, School of Economics and Management, Tongji University. He has served in the Journal of Finance, Journal of Business, Financial Review, Journal of Financial Intermediation, Journal of Corporate Finance, Journal of Banking and Finance, etc., Journal of Financial Markets, Journal of Empirical Finance, Journal of Journal of Financial Markets, Journal of Empirical Finance, Financial Management, and other journals. LIANG Jian Selected Subject: Business Administration
LIANG has been selected as one of Elsevier’s “Highly Cited Scholars in China” for 2020-2024. LIANG is currently the Deputy Dean of School of Economics and Management, Tongji University, and the Deputy Dean of Advanced Institute of Business, Tongji University. He was awarded the National Outstanding Youth Science Foundation and selected for the Shanghai Shuguang Scholars Program. He serves as senior editor of Management and Organization Review and co-editor-in-chief of Management Quarterly. He has published many papers in Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Applied Psychology, Journal of Management and other journals. He has received the Best Paper Award of International Significance from AOM, the Annual Outstanding Paper Award from the Journal of Psychology, the Outstanding Achievement Award for Scientific Research in Higher Education Schools from the Ministry of Education of China, the Outstanding Citation Award from Emerald, the Academic Research Award for Management from the Academic Foundation for Enterprise Reform and Development of Jiang Yiwei, and the Best Paper Award from MOR-RRBM.

LIU Huchen Selected disciplines: Management Science and Engineering
LIU has been selected as one of Elsevier’s “China’s Highly Cited Scholars” for 2018-2024. LIU is a Distinguished Professor of the Department of Management Science and Engineering, School of Economics and Management, Tongji University, the chief expert of the National Social Science Major Program, and a national young talent. He has long been engaged in research in the field of quality engineering and reliability management, and has been selected as one of the top 2% of global scientists and highly cited scientists in the world. He has published four monographs in English and three textbooks; he has published dozens of articles in Guangming Daily, Economic Daily, Science and Technology Daily and other media. His research results have been applied to medical services, aviation systems, weapons and equipment, and he has been awarded the Second Prize of Shanghai Natural Science and the First Prize of Shanghai Philosophy and Social Science Outstanding Achievements.

SHAO Shuai Selected Subjects: Applied Economics
SHAO is a Distinguished Professor (Long-term) of the Department of Economics and Finance, School of Economics and Management, Tongji University, the chief expert of major projects of the National Social Science Foundation of China, the recipient of the National Outstanding Youth Science Foundation, and the national high-level young talent of the Ministry of Organization of the CPC Central Committee. He has been selected as one of the “Highly Cited Scientists” by Corellis, “China’s Highly Cited Scholars” by Elsevier, and one of the top 0.05% of the world’s top scientists (ScholarGPS) for many years; he has been published in the journals of “Economic Research”, “World of Management”, “Journal of Management Science”, “Guangming Daily (Theoretical Edition)”, “Nature”, Journal of Economic Behavior & He has published more than 200 papers in journals such as Nature, Journal of Economic Behavior & Organization, World Development, Energy Journal, etc. He has presided over one major project of the National Social Science Foundation of China, five projects of the National Self-Science Foundation of China, and more than 10 provincial and ministerial scientific research projects; his reports on political affairs have received more than 20 affirmative approvals and adoptions from the provincial and ministerial levels; and he has served as a member of World Development, Environmental Economy and Environmental Economy Committee. XIONG Wei Selected Subjects: Public Administration
Selected as one of Elsevier’s “Highly Cited Scholars in China” for 2022-2024. XIONG is an Associate Professor of the Department of Public Administration, School of Economics and Management, Tongji University. D. from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and a visiting scholar at the Department of Economics at Harvard University and the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley. He has published more than 40 papers in Public Administration, Public Management Review and other high level journals at home and abroad, and 2 ESI high cited papers. He is the chair of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), the Ministry of Education’s Humanities and Social Sciences Program, and the Shanghai Morning Glory Program.
Research Interests : marketization of public services, government-social capital partnership (PPP), sustainable development and governance.
TAHIR ISLAM Selected Subjects: Business Administration
ISLAM is a postdoctoral Fellow of School of Economics and Management, Tongji University, advised by Prof. LIANG Xiaobei, she has published several EI and SSCI papers during her time at the station. She graduated from University of Science and Technology of China, majoring in Business Administration.
China’s Highly Cited Scholars
The 2024 Elsevier “China’s Highly Cited Scholars” list is based on Scopus, the world’s authoritative citation and indexing database, as the statistical source of Chinese scholars’ scientific research achievements, and adopts the methodology developed by Shanghai Softbank Educational Information and Consulting Company Limited, which has been released for the eleventh time until 2025, and has been highly concerned by scholars and media at home and abroad. The total number of Chinese highly cited scholars on the list of 2024 is 6,388, coming from 547 universities, enterprises and scientific research institutions, covering 10 subject areas and 83 first-level disciplines of the Ministry of Education.
Based on the Scopus Scholar Profile, Elsevier’s “China’s Highly Cited Scholars” list adopts a variety of indicators to systematically present the scientific research contribution and innovation value of Chinese scholars in their disciplines. At the same time, based on the global authoritative scientific research data network and continuous technological innovation, it systematically empowers the innovative development of China’s scientific community from the dimensions of scientific research innovation, talent attraction and cultivation, discipline construction, and scientific research infrastructure construction.
