Tongji SEM German-Sinco Center (Berlin): Charting Insights & Pathways for Chinese Enterprises’ European Expansion

Wed, Nov 26, 2025

Berlin, November 23, 2025 – -Hosted by the Tongji SEM German-Sinco Center (Berlin) and Tongji University Berlin Alumni Association, a high-profile thematic forum titled “German Policy Dynamics & the Roadmap for Chinese Enterprises Going Global to Europe” drew extensive attention from the Sino-German business and academic circles.

The forum served as a cross-generational gathering for Tongji alumni in Germany, uniting graduates from the 1979 intake to 2023 postgraduates. This assembly not only highlighted the strong cohesion of Tongji’s overseas alumni network but also created a platform for intergenerational knowledge sharing – linking veteran professionals’ industry experience with young talents’ innovative perspectives.

Two industry experts delivered keynote speeches that shed light on critical issues facing Chinese enterprises in Europe:

– HUSheng, Head of Cross-Border Enterprise Business at Tencent Cloud Europe, pinpointed core challenges including EU data compliance, AI regulatory frameworks, localized talent strategies, and industrial ecosystem integration. He emphasized that Chinese tech firms stand to gain significant opportunities in Europe’s digital transformation, smart manufacturing upgrading, and green industry chains, stressing that “investing in trusted technology solutions and localized governance capabilities is the cornerstone of sustainable development.”

– Dr. YUAN Jie, a renowned commentator for FT Chinese Network and a German studies graduate, dissected the new German government’s policy shifts. He noted that amid energy transition and geopolitical adjustments, Germany’s China policy has evolved from a “comprehensive partnership” to a “cooperation-competition” framework, advising Chinese enterprises to proactively adapt to policy nuances while leveraging Sino-German industrial complementarities.

Established in November 2024 as SEM’s first overseas physical hub, the Tongji SEM German-Sinco Center (Berlin) integrates academic research, talent cultivation, alumni services, and industrial collaboration. Its role in organizing such forums underscores its mission to bridge information gaps and facilitate practical cooperation between China and Germany.
