Marco Steinberg isStrategic Design Director at the Finnish Innovation Fund (Sitra). He is responsible for Helsinki Design Lab, a global initiative to help address today’s large scale strategic redesign & transformation needs; and oversees the design of Low2No, a transitional strategy to create national carbon free urban development in Finland through the implementation of a large scale development project in downtown Helsinki.
 
Prior to Sitra, Steinberg served (1999-2009) as a Professor at the Harvard Design School where his work focused on developing strategic design processes that enable more effective solutions to complex societal challenges. He was the Principal Investigator of the Stroke Pathways project : a strategic redesign of the stroke care delivery system, aimed at identifying strategic improvements in care through a systemic, inception to implementation, model. His work also included developing innovative organizational approaches to complex problem-solving and improved competitiveness through design. His research has extensively integrated with industry and government and he is the author and contributor to numerous books, including Digital Design & Manufacturing (Wiley & Sons, 2004); Immaterial/Ultramaterial (George Braziller, 2002); Before and After the End of Time (George Braziller, 2000); Material Legacies (Rhode Island School of Design, 2000); A Plywood Wheelchair (Harvard GSD, 1999); and contributor to journals ranging from the American Journal of Neuroradiology to the Harvard Design Magazine.
