Opening Ceremony of GARP Tongji Chapter Held Successfully

On the afternoon of September 11, the inaugural meeting of GARP (Global Association of Risk Professionals) Tongji Chapter, and the first meeting of GARP Tongji Chapter, was held in the conference room on the fourth floor, Zonghe Building, Siping Road campus, Tongji University. The attendees include Prof. Jiazhen HUO, Dean of School of Economics and Management (SEM), Prof. Weizhong CHEN, director of Department of Economics and Finance, Dr. Anurag Gupta, Associate Professor of Case Western Reserve University, USA, Dr. Yanghui YU, Chief Risk Officer from Orient Futures, etc. Discussion was carried out on the theme—-"Risk Management Education and Industry Demand in China".
The meeting was hosted by Dr. Yibin Li from Department of Economics and Finance, SEM. Dean HUO made a speech firstly from the perspective of the significance of risk management and the development of SEM. He placed great expectation on GARP Tongji Chapter, and expressed his promise to provide powerful support to activities held by the chapter. Prof. Weizhong Chen then introduced the characteristics and the developing trend of SEM’s financial risk research and expressed his determination to further develop research and teaching in financial risk management and create brand recognition of Tongji’s risk management on the basis of the existing Shanghai Futures Institute of Tongji University and Institute of Modern Finance. Then, Dr. Haiyan WANG, Associate Professor from the Department of Economics and Finance, SEM, Director of SEM’s International Office SEM, Director of GARP Tongji Chapter, announced the foundation of Tongji Chapter and introduced its missions and goals. Tongji Chapter is to bring together risk management professionals and Tongji students, and to create a bridge between research and practice in the area of risk management in Shanghai.
Around the theme "Risk Management Education and Industry Demand in China", Dr. Anurag Gupta, Dr. Haiyan WANG, and Dr. Yanghui YU made wonderful speeches named respectively "Global Risk Issues and Talent Needs in a Post-Crisis World", "Overview of China’s Risk Management Education/Training", and "Risk Management in the Chinese Futures Market". All those speeches acquire unanimous agreement among the chapter members and MBA students.
The activity held by GARP Tongji Chapter this time received warm responses among GARP members, of whom 63 members have registered on GARP website to attend the meeting.
