SEM Successfully Holds ‘Logistics Contractor Training & Communication Conference’for British BP Castrol

FromSeptember7th to 10th, 2015, British BP Castrol successfully hosted ‘Logistics Contractor Training and Communication Conference’ at Tongji-SEM.

There are around 90 contractors participated the conference, which consists of safety, logistics operation and system modules. In 2015, Castrol called for logistics contractors bidding; after bidding notification to the purchasing departments and switched projects to the contractors, Castrol organized a conference to explain and clarify its logistics-operation requirements to ensure smooth transfer from the old contractors to the new. This conference aims to better communicate with contractors, and to ensure all contractors are fully understand logistics demands and requirements before signing the formal contracts.

This training is the first collaboration between SEM Tongjiand BP Castrol. SEM is going to host a workshop for Castrol again this mid October. The workshop will help company to better improve the theoretical knowledge about logistics management, at the same timeenable the school further understandlogistics experience from industry. This collaborative mode between university and industry is beneficial for the university to achieve the integration of product, study and research.The university’s research can bebetter oriented to the market demandswhile at the same timethe university’s programs can provide companies with better serviceandindustry practices can effectively guide improvement ofscientific research.

Tongji SEM’s Information Management and Information System program was launched in 1984, which is among one of the earlist universities to startsuch program.Tongji’s Logistics Management program started in 2004, and was among the first batchof unviersitieswho set up this academic program in China. Currently, both programs have been ranked top domestically. Also, faculties of SEM have been appointed as Research Chair for DHL, Kuehne& Nagel and other foreign companies. These companies sponsor SEM’s faculties on scientific research.
