On August 7, Qin Haiyang, one of 2019 cohort of undergraduate students at Tongji University’s School of Economics and Management, and his teammates clinched the gold medal in the men’s 4x100m medley relay.
This was the 100th gold medal won by the Chinese delegation at the FISU World University Games.
Qin Haiyang, who participated in a series of tournaments from the World Aquatics Championships to the FISU World University Games, continued to excel.
He continued the legend by winning five gold medals in separate competitions:
Gold medal in men’s 50m breaststroke;
Gold medal in men’s 100m breaststroke;
Gold medal in men’s 200m breaststroke;
Gold medal in men’s 4x100m medley relay; and
Gold medal in mixed 4x100m medley relay.
He won the “grand slam” in breaststroke at the Chengdu 2021 FISU World University Games and repeatedly shattered the FISU World University Games records.
He said, “I approached the competition as a practice session, made some tweaks, and set my sights on a successful outcome.”
Qin Haiyang, dubbed the “breaststroke king” by the International Swimming Federation, claimed that this joy would not last in his memory for very long and that he could only turn it into the bravery to advance and go further by remaining dedicated to and passionate about competitive sports.
His major goal will be to win gold medals at the forthcoming Olympics in Paris.
