Seven Scholars from Tongji SEM Named in Elsevier’s 2025 Highly Cited Chinese Researchers List

On, Shanghai, 5 February 2026, Elsevier officially unveiled its 2025 Highly Cited Chinese Researchers List on 30 January 2026, with seven scholars from the School of Economics and Management of Tongji University (Tongji SEM) earning a spot on this renowned ranking. The selected academics represent four key disciplines at the school, namely Management Science and Engineering, Business Administration, Applied Economics, and Public Administration, a testament to Tongji SEM’s prominent academic influence and robust research capabilities across multiple fields in China.

The seven distinguished scholars are LIU Huchen, KENNETH A.KIM, LIANG Jian, XIE En and XIE Xuemei, SHAO Shuai, and XIONG Wei. All of them have a sustained track record of high citations and outstanding research achievements, with years of consecutive selections to the list reflecting their long-term academic contributions in their respective fields.

LIU Huchen, a Distinguished Professor of Tongji University, has been named a Highly Cited Chinese Researcher for eight consecutive years, and is also a regular on the lists of the World’s Top 2% Scientists and Global Highly Cited Researchers. His research in quality engineering and reliability management has been applied in medical services, aerospace systems and other key sectors, and he has won multiple provincial and ministerial-level awards. KENNETH A.KIM boasts a decade of consecutive selections, with research spanning corporate finance, behavioral finance and international finance, and holds important editorial positions in several top international finance journals.

LIANG Jian and XIE En, both with six consecutive selections, are leading figures in Tongji SEM’s Business Administration discipline. LIANG Jian, Vice Dean of the school, focuses on employee proactive behavior and the gig economy model, while XIE En, Dean of the school, is a pioneer in strategic management and international business research, with his papers cited over 2,500 times in the Web of Science Core Collection. XIE Xuemei, a Tenured Distinguished Professor, has four consecutive selections to her name, with her research on green innovation and female entrepreneurship yielding abundant high-level academic results.

In Applied Economics, SHAO Shuai, a Tenured Distinguished Professor with six consecutive selections, is a leading talent in resource and environmental economics and regional sustainable development research. His policy advisory reports have been highly recognized by senior leaders, and he has won numerous prestigious academic awards. XIONG Wei, an Associate Professor in Public Administration with four consecutive selections, specializes in PPP models and infrastructure investment and financing, and has conducted research as a visiting scholar at world-renowned universities including Harvard University and the University of California, Berkeley.

Now in its 12th year of release by 2026, Elsevier’s Highly Cited Chinese Researchers List is compiled based on Scopus, the world’s authoritative citation and indexing database, using methodologies developed by Shanghai Ranking Consultancy. The 2025 list features a total of 6,310 scholars from 543 universities, enterprises and research institutions across China, covering 10 disciplinary fields and 83 first-level disciplines under the Ministry of Education.

The list uses a comprehensive multi-indicator evaluation system to objectively reflect the research contributions and innovative value of Chinese scholars in their respective disciplines. Relying on a globally authoritative scientific research data network and continuous technological innovation, it provides strong support for China’s scientific and technological innovation, talent cultivation, and disciplinary construction, and is highly regarded by the academic community at home and abroad.

The outstanding performance of Tongji SEM’s scholars on this list is a reflection of the school’s unremitting efforts in disciplinary construction, talent training and scientific research innovation.
