Wed, May 31, 2017

The School of Economics and Management of Tongji University and Mckin signed an agreement over the weekend to set up a PPP research institute.

THE School of Economics and Management of Tongji University signed an agreement with Shanghai Mckin Capital Management Co Ltd over the weekend to set up an institute focusing on public-private partnership, a new popular approach of financing and project management.

The institute will study policies and challenges in PPP project operation to provide consultation for both government and enterprises and to cultivate related talents.

It will also provide training for government officials and enterprise employees on the new mode that is not well understood by the public in China yet, said Li Quanying, an alumnus of Tongji and chairman of Mckin, an investment company focusing on PPP projects.

“I hope more enterprises will join hands with us to build up a cluster and enhance cooperation with the institute and the School of Economics and Management of Tongji,” said Li.

“As the government encourages foreign capital to take part in PPP programs in China, we also welcome them to join us.”

The partnership between the government and the private sector is gaining popularity in China in recent years as a way to increase, optimize and enrich supplies of public products and services and to improve efficiency of utilization of public resources.

Representatives of several Chinese, Singaporean and American companies attended the agreement signing ceremony as they showed their interest in PPP.

Mckin also donated 2 million yuan (US$290,000) to the school of economics and management to set up a scholarship for outstanding students to go through continuous bachelor-master-doctor study.
