Tongji SEM Hosts 2018 “Doing Business in China Workshop” for ESSEC & MANNHEIM EMBA Delegation

From Oct. 22 to Oct. 26, 2018, SEM successfully hosted a group of 21 Executive MBA students from ESSEC & MANNHEIM Business Schools to have a five-day workshop on “Doing Business in China”. The delegation members are composed of corporate executives with many years of working experience from various industries, such as IT, medicine, automobile, electronic product, and insurance, etc.

The five-day workshop consisted of several seminars delivered by Tongji faculty, guest speakers from industry, and a one-day company visit. The workshop covered the topics such as Consumer Behavior and Marketing in China, China’s Recent Macroeconomic Condition, and China in Transition, etc. Our professors made in-depth interactions with the participants from the perspective of the China’s impacts on the world, Chinese consumer behavior and potential business opportunities and the corporate innovative development strategy and etc.

During the field trip, the participants visited the Heidelberg Graphic Equipment (Shanghai) Co., Ltd located in Qingpu Industrial park. The group visited the factory assembly line on site, and listened to the general manager’s detailed introduction about their operation mode, as well as the function of their printing machines. Through the direct interaction with corporate management, the participants got a chance to better understand the challenge, opportunities, commercial strategy and management mode that the foreign companies confronted when they operated and developed in China.

Mannheim Business School, the University of Mannheim, is the best business school in Germany, and owns the reputation of “Harvard in Germany.” It is ranked 15thin the European Business School Ranking by Financial Times in 2017.Mannheim Business School is the only business school in Germany that has the triple-crown authoritative accreditation, namely AACSB, EQUIS and AMBA. ESSEC Business School is 7th among all the French business schools and 23rdin the European Business School Ranking by Financial Times in 2017. It has also acquired the triple-crown accreditations.

Currently, our school has fruitful and close collaboration with both Manheim Business School and ESSEC Business School on faculty exchange, and double degree and non-degree student exchange programs.
