The team of the School of Economics and Management of Tongji University (Tongji SEM) won the first prize in the finals of the 2022 CIOB Global Student Challenge (GSC). This is the first time that the Tongji University team has participated in this international competition and won the first place. The instructor of the Tongji SEM team is TANG Daizhong, an associate professor in the Department of Project Management and Real Estate. The team leader is PENG Bo and the team members are JU Xinyu, WANG Yuhang and LI Jingyan.

The Global Student Challenge is an annual competition for students majoring in global project management organized by CIOB. The competition uses the MERIT software platform developed by its partner company to simulate the whole process of decision-making in the construction project. Each participating team needs to make key decisions, which cover a variety of functions in the project management company, including marketing, estimation, bidding, financial and personnel management. Team members should act as financial manager, personnel manager, bidding manager, project manager and other roles, simulate the operation of a company, formulate business strategies according to the operating conditions of the company, and finally conduct a quantitative evaluation of the business results.

This is the first year that Tongji SEM has participated in the CIOB Global College Student Challenge and won the first place in the final, which fully demonstrates the solid professional knowledge and broad international vision of the students of Tongji SEM. This year, more than 40 college teams from all over the world participated in the competition. After 10 days of fierce competition in the preliminary round, 6 teams including our school entered the finals, and the other 5 teams entering the 2022 GSC finals were from Chongqing University and Hong Kong Polytechnic University, the University of Indonesia, the University of Western Sydney in Australia and the University of Minnesota in the United States.
