In the afternoon of June 26, Tongji University Library and SEM jointly held an online workshop on the use of economic and management databases. LI Yuanyuan, Discipline Librarian of Tongji University Library, and CAO Xiaoling, Director of the Undergraduate Centre of SEM, jointly hosted the workshop. More than two hundred teachers and students attended the training.

The workshop introduced the following databases commonly used in China and abroad for economic and management purposes: DRCNet, BVD, Emerald, Gale, EBSCO and ABI databases. It explains how to quickly retrieve high quality information, effectively analyse research progress, identify new research directions, keep track of the latest developments in research directions, manage a large amount of retrieved literature in an orderly manner and improve the efficiency of dissertation writing, etc.

WANG Haitao Sharing DRCNet’s Economic Big Data Services

WANG Haitao, Senior Training Lecturer of DRCNet, shared the topic of “Integration and Innovation of New Think Tanks, Helping High-Quality Development of Education and Research – DRCNet’s Economic Big Data Services”, he briefly introduced the economic contents and applications in macro, industry, region, enterprise, education, finance, etc., and combined information resources with series of research of DRCNet. In addition, he also demonstrated how to search the literature and data on the website.

LU Xuesong Sharing BVD Database

LU Xuesong has worked in the data industry for more than 20 years and has been responsible for sales and training services for Moody China for more than 12 years. He shared the topic of “Using BVD global financial and corporate data to help micro-economic and business research”. He introduced three main areas of data sources and data integration, data value – global semiconductor research cases, and data research on banks, listed companies and M&A transactions.

LIU Tie Sharing the Use of Emerald Resources

LIU Tie, China Account Manager of Emerald Publishing, shared the topic of “Efficient use of Emerald journal resources for academic publication”. He introduced Emerald resources and subject details, and demonstrated and shared Emerald resource utilization methods.

GAO Fan Sharing Gale Database Foreign Language Resources Data Service

GAO Fan, Senior Trainer of Gale, shared the topic of “Focus on Quality Foreign Language Resources｜Gale Database Seminar”, in which she shared the introduction of Gale, the quality resources, the new platform, tools and case studies of Gale Business: Insights database.

TAN Chao Sharing EBSCO’s Top Global Management Resources

TAN Chao, EBSCO Regional Manager, shared the topic of “EBSCO Global Top Management Resources – BSC, Econlit FT help you to get the top resources in the field quickly”, he focused the subscribed resource BSC and the trial resource Econlit FT.

GUO Guyu shares on the ABI Business Database

Guo Guyu, a ProQuest training and consulting consultant, shared topic on “ABI Helps Your Business Research”. It provided a thorough introduction to the ABI Business Database, including how to efficiently find business dissertations, industry reports, company reports, financial data, SWOT analysis, etc., as well as how to target your dissertation reading and literature pinpointing. In addition, she shared hands-on methods for correcting problems of missing, mis-checking and mis-checking in literature searches.

LI Yuanyuan Introducing the University Database Services

The workshop provided detailed training on the basics, search usage and application value of the six major database products. LI Yuanyuan, Discipline Librarian of Tongji University Library, introduced that the university provides fast-searching and comprehensive database resources for students and teachers for study and research work.
