On 29 June 2023, the 2023 graduation ceremony of our School was successfully held at Tongji Auditorium. LEI Xinghui, Vice President of Tongji University, SHI Qian, Senior Deputy Dean of SEM, XIE En, Senior Deputy Dean, DONG Bianlin, Deputy Deanm, attended the ceremony.

LEI Xinghui gave an insightful speech on the next opportunity for economic development, using the revolutionary history of the Internet as an example. He hoped that the graduates would adopt a lifelong learning attitude and respond positively to problems with innovative thinking.

SHI Qian summarised the progress over the year and provided direction for the future of graduates from the perspective of economic cycles and life encounters. He said that the trials of the pandemic have increased the resilience, influence and mental toughness of this year’s graduates. He sincerely hopes that SEM graduates will be highly ethical, professionally competent, leadership-oriented, strategic and business-savvy in the future. SEM will always be there for them.

XIE Mi, a PhD student in Applied Economics, spoke as a representative of the graduate students. She was awarded the 7th TAN Chongtai Scholarship for Development Economics and has now joined Shanghai University of Finance and Economics as a research assistant. In her speech, she talked about gratefulness and mission of our generation.

Mr XU Yongming, Council Member of Tongji University and Director of JCDecaux Momentum Shanghai Airport Advertising Co., Ltd., spoke as an alumni representative. China is in a new era of high-quality development and modernisation, full of changes and challenging opportunities, and he inspired the graduates to uphold their ideals and to take the modernisation and construction of their country as their unshirkable responsibility.
