During October 8-10, Prof. Dajian Zhu, director of Department of Public Administration, and Director of Institute of Sustainable Development and Management, Tongji University, was invited to attend the world-famous British Wilton Park Senior Policy Forum. The theme of this forum is “The cooperation with China to promote sustainable development in climatic change, environment and structure of energy.”

 

As the main speaker, Prof. Zhu made a speech on “the green span of Low-carbon consumption economy development”, which includes four points: first, if the past 60 years of China can be divided as 30 years’ politics (1949-1987) and 30 years’ economy (1979-2009), then China’s future would be the 30-40 years of challenging topics on resources and environments. China is on the process of green transformation. Second, China is exposed to several modes to choose. There are American mode with highly materials-consumption orientation, and Euro-Jan mode with highly resourceful efficiency. The ideal goal is to develop a green span mode of China’s own absorbing the current experiences. Third, China enjoys many ready conditions to realize the green span, what we have to do now is to convert the potentials to the systematic force for span development. Forth, the policies in the following five years focus on five points to assure the common desire and specific goal for China’s low-carbon consumption. The speech delivered by Prof. Zhu received great repercussion.

 

Founded in 1964 after the Second World War, Wilton Park Senior Policy Seminar has a long history of more than 60 years. The theme of the seminar lies in “Better policies for a better world”. Each session of the meeting would choose one of the hot topics at present and invite around 50 experts having immediate impacts on the policy-decision all through the world. The forum is held in secluded England village with the time-honored history, as long as 1000 years. The meeting concludes to draw the significant proposals for the key points.
