Mon, Jul 11, 2016

“There are many approaches to learn about China, while the 7-day China Workshop of Global Energy at Tongji-SEM seems to be the most unique way!”

This is the reflection from one of the Warwick Business School Global Energy Program EMBA students. As executives, those EMBA students could learn China from work, personal connections, and news media, etc. The customized China Workshop of Global Energy program Tongji-SEM delivered includes lectures by professors, in-depth interaction with Tongji MBA students, company visits to energy-related companies, and Q&A with company executives. The short 7-day China Workshop of Global Energy strengthens students’ comprehensive understanding of China, and some students even would like to transfer their work from overseas to Shanghai.

From July 2nd to 8th, 2016, SEM successfully hosted a group of Executive MBA students from Warwick Business School to have a seven-day program on “China Workshop of Global Energy”. The EMBA students of WBS boast several years of working experience from various industries, mainly from industries of energy, architecture, IT and finance.

The workshop consists of seminars jointly delivered by Tongji and Warwick faculties, followed by 3 company visits. The workshop covered the topics on Understanding Chinese Economy, Business in Chinese Society, and Green Development in China. EMBA students discussed and communicated actively with SEM faculty and SEM’s MBA students while the faculty elaborated in detail their perspectives combining theories with practice. To help students better understand the operations of companies in China, we also organized visits to Shanghai Waigaoqiao No.3 Power Generation Co. Ltd, Siemens China and SAIC Motor. Through the field trips to companies and the interaction with the company’s management, participants gained a better understanding of how companies apply their energy strategies in China under the circumstances of global energy crisis. During the visit at SAIC, Students have strong interest on SAIC’s new energy vehicle and its launch time in overseas market. The Project Operation Director, Mr. Luo, was proud to say that SAIC’s new energy vehicles will enter the U.S. market in 2020.
