From April 22nd to 29th, a delegation, led by Prof. XIE En, Interim Dean of Tongji-SEM visited our important partner institutions in France and Germany, and held talks on how to consolidate the existing partnership and to actively explore collaborative opportunities at higher and deeper level in the post-pandemic era.

During the stay in France, the delegation visited ESCP Europe Business School and ESSEC Business School. ESCP Europe Business School, a long standing partner of our school, has grown rapidly in recent years, with multiple overseas campuses, top-notch student quality and high level of internationalization. ESSEC Business School is also a top-class business school, featuring at the top of numerous national and international rankings among the leading higher education institutions in management. The management of ESCP and ESSEC held talk with the delegation respectively on the topics such as Double-degree programs, Exchange of Ph.D. students and Tri-continental Master Program.

In the overall context of “Strategy 2.0 for Cooperation with Germany” initiated by Tongji University, the delegation attached great importance to their visit to Germany, in the hope to further consolidate and expand Tongji-SEM’s partnership with its German friends.

During the stay in Germany, the delegation visited Technical University Munich and Karlsruhe Institute of Technology. Technical University Munich consistently ranks first in research at CHE among German universities, with 18 Nobel laureates. Committed to excellence and innovation, the TUM School of Management is recognized for its outstanding performance in teaching and research, with a variety of innovative talent training programs. Karlsruhe Institute of Technology has a high reputation in education in the field of science and engineering. The KIT department of Economics and Management is one of the largest and most renowned training centers for students of Industrial Engineering and Management in Germany, with a focus on interdisciplinary research and study in the field of industrial engineering, informatics and economics. The delegation was warmly welcomed by the management team of TUM School of Management and KIT Department of Economics and Management, respectively. The conversation was focusing on the topics such as Double-degree programs, Internship opportunities for international students in China, Joint Doctor Degree Program and Joint research.

This was our school’s first official overseas visit to Europe since the outbreak of the pandemic. As one of the key measures to carry out the “Strategy 2.0 for Cooperation with Germany” initiated by Tongji University, the visit aims at further consolidating and expanding our “circle of friends” in Europe, with an intention to develop a collaborative network centered around Europe and radiating globally. During the talks, the strategic focus of these top-class institutions as well as their distinctive features in talent cultivation and program settings have inspired new ideas for us. Their successful experiences serve as a good reference for us on how to build into a world-class top business school.

During the visit, the delegation also met with the alumni representatives, and participated in the Sino-French Collaboration Forum held in France. The delegation exchanged views with them on topics such as Joint training of internationalized talents, aiming to further promote the international mobility of our students and jointly contribute to development of Tongji SEM.
