Writing a scientific paper is a challenging task for graduate students, researchers, and faculty members. Based on years of experience serving as Editor-in-Chief for ASCE Journal of Management in Engineering, a Specialty Editor (Case Studies) for ASCE Journal of Construction Engineering and Management, and Department Editor in Project Management for IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management, this presentation will provide essential tips of writing a solid journal paper. It will discuss where to publish, how to convey your research, what to emphasize, how to revise and resubmit, and what to do with rejections. Role as a journal reviewer will also be addressed. The presentation is particularly beneficial for junior graduate students who are starting their academic career trying to find ways to write good journal papers.
