China Skyscraper Construction and Development Research Report Released

Tue, Nov 26, 2013

In recent years, the skyscraper constructions in our country present a "blowout" phenomenon. Several cities are planning to construct buildings more than 300 meters tall. The height of the tallest building in China is constantly refreshed and the skyscraper construction is becoming a crazy game of height competing. There are too many problems and discussions, for example, is the construction of skyscrapers good or bad, how high on earth it really needs, are there too many or too few skyscrapers in China, what is the driving force of skyscraper construction, what challenges and risks are there in skyscraper constructions, what is the future trend of skyscrapers, and etc. These issues have aroused great controversy and are in urgent need of professional answers. Under such circumstances, the Complex Project Management Institute in Tongji SEM set up a research team since September 2010 and conducted a comprehensive study. Recently, China Skyscraper Construction and Development Research Report edited by Complex Project Management Institute released and it gives answers to the hot issues on skyscraper constructions from various angles. Dr. Yongkui Li and Dr. Yun Yue edit the report with the assistance of two deputy editor Dr. Qinghua He and Dr. Haibo Lu.

With reference to Council On Tall Buildings And Urban Habitat (CTBUH), the report takes buildings over 300 meters as the studying subject and makes a breakthrough instead of simply focusing on problems of building and engineering. It carries out the analysis and research through qualitative and quantitative methods and gives an overall, deep and objective reply to questions on the skyscraper construction and development from 9 perspectives, such as history, economy, culture, city, industry, engineering, cost, development and public response. The report offers good references for decision-makers, administrator, constructor and the public. Construction Time conducted a special interview on Prof. Yongkui Li, the editor of this report, on November 14, 2013.
