Regional Economics comprehensively studies the development and organization of a region’s economy as well as the relationships among economies of different regions from the perspective of economics. It provides scientific foundation to regional production layout, enterprise layout, development and structural optimization of a region’s economy, economic relationships among regions as well as the formulation of the strategy and planning of a region’s economic and social development.
The specialty of Regional Economics draws on the advantages of city planning, engineering management, land development and technological economics in Tongji University. Deeply rooted in the Yangtze River delta whose economy is developing in an increasingly rapid speed, this specialty has solid theoretical foundation as well as good conditions for joint study. It also embraces outstanding characteristics in the research fields of industrial structure planning, agriculture regionalization, township economy planning as well as development and planning of urban economy. It has yielded substantial research results and gained remarkable social and economic effects over the years.
